Windows, Xbox, and M365 logins are getting streamlined by Microsoft

Microsoft Introduces Unified, Passwordless Sign-In Experience

Microsoft is in the midst of updating its Microsoft Account (MSA) sign-in process across websites, mobile apps, and eventually Windows. The goal of the update, as outlined in a recent blog post, is to provide a more modern, unified experience in preparation for a passwordless future.

By late April, most users will see a newly designed login and registration flow. The new layout offers fewer elements per screen, with better scalability for different devices and screen sizes.

    Passwordless Sign-Ins with Passkeys

A major change in this update is Microsoft’s emphasis on passwordless sign-ins via passkeys. Upon logging in, users will be prompted to create a passkey, which will become the default login method for future sign-ins.

For those who don’t yet have a passkey, Microsoft will default to using an email address for login, which can also be helpful for account recovery. Microsoft encourages users to link a recovery email address to ensure easy access in case of an issue.

The new login flow introduces a sleek Microsoft-centric aesthetic. The classic logo will be prominently displayed at the center of the screen, with all Microsoft services—Xbox, Microsoft 365, and Outlook—sharing a unified background. Buttons and links will be color-coded to match the respective service, creating a consistent experience across platforms.

The update is slated for full deployment by April.
