Microsoft 365 on Windows 10 will miss out on new features starting in 2026
If you’re still using Microsoft 365 on Windows 10, Microsoft has a new update—and it’s a little carrot, a little stick. The company is reminding users that while support for Windows 10 ends on October 14, 2025, Microsoft 365 apps like Word and Excel will keep getting security updates through October 2028. But there’s a catch.
These apps will stop receiving new features after August 2026, when Microsoft 365 reaches Version 2608. That means anything new after that—including future AI-powered features—won’t make it to Windows 10. You’ll still be able to use the apps as usual, but they won’t grow or evolve like their Windows 11 counterparts.
It’s a clear message from Microsoft: if you want the full Microsoft 365 experience, including everything new they’re rolling out, you’ll need to upgrade to Windows 11. If you’re fine with sticking to what you already have and just need security updates, Windows 10 will be supported a bit longer—but only in that limited way.
So while Microsoft isn’t pulling the plug entirely, it’s giving users a reason to make the jump sooner rather than later.
