NordVPN is preparing to shut down its Meshnet feature, ending support on December 1, 2025. After that date, the tool and all related services will no longer be available, though the rest of NordVPN’s offerings will remain unaffected. The decision closes the chapter on a feature that had only been around since 2022, designed to help users securely connect devices as if they were on the same local network. Meshnet was unique in combining encrypted file sharing with broader network functions, providing a rare mix of practicality and entertainment for its users.
In a statement on its official blog, NordVPN reflected on why the feature is being discontinued. The company explained that while Meshnet gave users greater control over their personal networks and appealed to a dedicated subset of customers, it ultimately did not attract the widespread adoption that NordVPN had hoped for. Maintaining Meshnet required continuous technical investment, and the company has chosen instead to reallocate those resources toward services that benefit its entire user base. By doing so, NordVPN aims to further improve its speed, reliability, and advanced security capabilities, which remain the main reasons many consider it one of the best VPN services available today.
For users looking for a replacement, NordVPN is pointing them toward NordLocker, its dedicated encrypted storage and file-sharing service. Unlike Meshnet, NordLocker is built specifically for secure data handling and is available through a separate subscription. Customers can choose a free plan with 3GB of space or opt for larger paid plans, such as 500GB for $2.99/month or 2TB for $6.99/month. Although there is currently no direct competitor replicating Meshnet’s LAN-style connectivity for gaming and device linking, NordLocker ensures that encrypted storage and file-sharing remain within NordVPN’s ecosystem.
