Microsoft is expanding the AI capabilities of its 365 suite by introducing new Copilot features for OneDrive users, aiming to make document management faster and smarter. According to a recent blog post from OneDrive, these tools now allow users to summarize documents, ask specific questions about file contents, compare multiple files, and even automatically generate FAQs, all using Copilot’s AI capabilities. This update represents a substantial upgrade for professionals, students, and anyone managing a large volume of documents, offering time-saving automation and insight generation that previously required manual effort.
The file comparison tool is integrated with File Explorer and can handle up to five files at a time, making it easier to identify discrepancies or track revisions across documents. Other features are accessible through the OneDrive interface, enabling seamless interaction with files stored in the cloud. Copilot’s AI currently supports Office files (DOC, DOCX, PPT, PPTX, XLSX), widely used formats such as PDF, TXT, and RTF, web-based files (HTML, HTM), and OpenDocument files (ODT, ODP), covering most standard document types for business and personal use.
It’s worth noting that Copilot’s AI features do not yet extend to images, screenshots, videos, or other media files, so workflows heavily reliant on visual content will need to rely on traditional tools for now. Nevertheless, for tasks involving textual content, the new AI enhancements can dramatically reduce the time needed to read, analyze, or extract information from multiple documents. Whether summarizing long reports, answering questions about file contents, comparing versions, or generating FAQs, these features provide a smarter, AI-driven approach to document management, highlighting Microsoft’s ongoing push to integrate AI more deeply into its productivity ecosystem.
