365 Premium replaces Copilot Pro in Microsoft’s lineup

Microsoft is reshaping its consumer subscription lineup with the launch of Microsoft 365 Premium, a plan that merges its traditional productivity suite with advanced Copilot AI tools. At $19.99 per month, Premium replaces the $20 Copilot Pro subscription, which is being retired, and combines it with the Family version of Microsoft 365. The result is a single package aimed at households and professionals who want AI woven into everyday productivity.

The new plan grants users access to Microsoft’s core Office apps, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and Outlook, with Copilot Chat built into each. It also includes 1TB of storage and upgraded AI benefits: extended GPT-5 limits, 40 monthly image generations, and specialized Copilot agents designed for research, analytics, and workflow automation. By offering all of this at a consumer price point, Microsoft is clearly taking aim at competitors like OpenAI’s ChatGPT Plus, which offers fewer productivity tie-ins.

Another key selling point is versatility. Microsoft says Premium can be used both at home and at work, with enterprise-level data protection applied to Copilot features. This could make it appealing for small business users who want professional-grade tools without the complexity of a full enterprise subscription.

However, current subscribers need to read the fine print. Microsoft won’t simply merge existing Family or Personal plans into Premium; instead, customers will be credited with a proportional number of Premium days based on their current subscription length. For those staying on Family or Personal, Microsoft is adding modest upgrades, including Copilot Voice with no limits, 40 image generations in Office apps, and expanded Copilot tools like Podcasts, Vision, and Deep Research.
