Sony might be gearing up to introduce its own version of Microsoft’s “Play Anywhere” initiative, offering cross-platform game ownership between PC and PlayStation 5. New leaks circulating online show a “Cross-Buy” logo labeled “PS5/PC” within the PlayStation Store’s backend files, suggesting that players may soon be able to purchase a title once and play it seamlessly across both systems. This potential integration follows Sony’s growing investment in PC gaming, where the company has been steadily releasing high-profile exclusives like Horizon Zero Dawn and God of War to great success.
The idea isn’t entirely new for Sony. The company briefly supported Cross-Buy during the PS Vita era, allowing users to share select titles between handheld and console. However, as handheld hardware faded from Sony’s lineup, the feature quietly disappeared. Now, with PC gaming serving as Sony’s new frontier—and the Portal handheld expanding the company’s streaming ecosystem—the revival of Cross-Buy makes perfect sense as part of a broader strategy to unify its platforms.
Such a system could be a major incentive for players who split their time between console and PC. Gamers who own both a PS5 and a high-end rig would finally be able to purchase a game once and enjoy it wherever they prefer to play—without having to repurchase it on another storefront. It’s a customer-friendly move that could enhance Sony’s competitiveness with Microsoft’s already well-established cross-platform ecosystem.
Given the rising cost of games, Cross-Buy would not only add value but also strengthen player loyalty at a crucial time for the gaming industry. While the feature hasn’t been officially announced yet, the emergence of the PS5/PC Cross-Buy logo could be the clearest sign yet that Sony is ready to blur the lines between console and PC ownership in a big way.
