The developers of Duet Night Abyss have confirmed that a recent update to the game’s launcher was compromised, distributing keylogger spyware to players.
Malware hidden in update
Following the March 18 update, users reported alerts from Windows Defender detecting the “Umbral Stealer” trojan, a type of malware designed to capture sensitive data such as login credentials and personal information.
The developers later acknowledged the breach, describing it as a malicious attack on their update system.
Risk of stolen data
Unlike typical game bugs, this incident carries serious consequences. Keyloggers can record keystrokes, potentially exposing:
- Banking details
- Account passwords
- Personal data
Players who installed the affected update are advised to run full antivirus scans and change passwords immediately.
Limited scope—but serious impact
The attack appears to have targeted the game’s standalone launcher, not platforms like Steam. However, the incident highlights growing risks in the PC gaming ecosystem, especially among free-to-play titles.
Compensation offered
As compensation, the developers announced in-game rewards, though these offer little reassurance compared to the potential security risks involved.
A growing trend
With millions of users downloading updates daily, gaming platforms and launchers are becoming increasingly attractive targets for cyberattacks—making vigilance more important than ever.
