A new video playback problem has surfaced for Windows 11 24H2 users who installed August’s optional update KB5064081. While the update introduced new features and resolved previous audio bugs, it now appears to interfere with playback of DRM-protected content on Digital TV apps, Blu-ray, and DVD software that use the Enhanced Video Renderer.
Users may encounter black screens, playback freezes, or copyright protection error messages when attempting to watch movies stored locally on their PCs. Microsoft emphasizes that this issue affects only protected media played via legacy components, and streaming services remain unaffected.
Microsoft is actively investigating the problem and plans to address it in future updates. In the meantime, those affected may need to use external playback devices or rely on streaming platforms until a fix is released.
