Windows 11 Gains Ground, But Windows 10 Continues to Dominate Market Share

According to Statcounter’s latest analysis, highlighted by Neowin, Windows 11 is gradually narrowing the gap with its predecessor, Windows 10, in terms of market share. Currently, Windows 10 boasts a significant lead with 60.95 percent of the market, although this represents a decline of 1.8 percentage points from previous figures. On the other hand, Windows 11 has gained traction, increasing its market presence by 2.13 percentage points to reach a total of 35.55 percent. Despite this positive trend for Windows 11, it is clear that more than twice as many users are still reliant on Windows 10.

This trend is particularly noteworthy considering that Windows 11 recently surpassed Windows 10 in popularity among Steam users, suggesting a shift in user sentiment towards the newer operating system. The migration to Windows 11 is likely influenced by hardware upgrades, with many consumers opting for new devices that come pre-installed with the latest OS.

Looking ahead, the upcoming end-of-support date for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025, will play a crucial role in shaping the future of Windows usage. As this deadline approaches, we can anticipate a more significant influx of users transitioning to Windows 11. While it’s technically possible for existing Windows 10 users to continue using the OS post-support, doing so will come with additional costs and reduced support, further incentivizing a move to the newer system. Overall, as Windows 11 celebrates its three-year anniversary, the gradual shift in user adoption is expected to continue, spurred by both market dynamics and evolving consumer needs.
