Fluid Motion Frames 2 from AMD: A New Era for Frame Rate Boosting

AMD’s Fluid Motion Frames 2 (FMF2), the company’s latest AI-driven frame generation technology, has officially launched as part of Adrenalin version 24.9.1. Initially introduced in a beta release back in July, FMF2 is now fully operational and ready to enhance gaming experiences.

According to AMD, FMF2 is designed to provide “AI-optimized for improved quality and smoothness,” which translates to lower frame generation latency and reduced overhead on integrated graphics. A key feature of FMF2 is its support for borderless full-screen mode, a significant benefit for gamers who multitask with multiple background applications. The technology is also compatible with games using Vulkan and OpenGL graphics, allowing for broader application across various gaming platforms.

FMF2 works with AMD’s RX 6000 and RX 7000 series GPUs, both in desktop and laptop configurations, as well as integrated graphics solutions featuring RDNA 3 architecture, including the new Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 laptops. AMD suggests that by combining FMF2 with its Hyper-RX toolset, users could see frame rates increase two to three times higher than the game’s baseline performance, contingent on utilizing high-performance hardware such as the RX 7900 XTX.

Additionally, the Adrenalin 24.9.1 release includes features like “geometric downscaling,” which aims to mitigate visual artifacts during the downscaling of video and game windows. It also introduces HYPR-Tune support for popular recent titles, including Black Myth Wukong, God of War Ragnarök, Space Marine II, and Frostpunk 2. Gamers interested in these enhancements can download the latest driver suite to optimize their experience.
