Wyze’s Upgraded Lamp Socket v2 Makes Outdoor Camera Power and Lighting a Breeze
Powering an outdoor security camera often turns into a complicated mess of wires, extension cords, or solar panels—and that’s before you add outdoor lighting to the mix. Wyze’s newly upgraded Lamp Socket v2 offers a practical, all-in-one solution for users with existing outdoor light sockets. It powers your Wyze security cam while letting you control a connected bulb through the Wyze app—no rewiring or additional infrastructure required.
This new $20 version of the Lamp Socket builds upon the original 2021 model with broader camera compatibility and expanded grouping capabilities. It supports Wyze Cam v3, v3 Pro, v4, Cam OG, and Pan v3 cameras through its integrated USB power port. Setup is as easy as it sounds: just screw the Lamp Socket into an existing outdoor light fixture, plug in your Wyze cam with its original cable, and install a standard bulb. You’ll want to avoid incandescent bulbs due to heat output, but most LED bulbs will work fine.
Once installed, the Wyze app opens up a range of automation options. You can remotely control the light, set it to follow a schedule, sync it with sunrise and sunset, or have it turn on when your Wyze camera detects motion. Better still, if you have multiple sockets around your property, you can group the Lamp Socket v2 units together. Unlike the original version that was limited to five units per group, the updated model supports unlimited grouping—though the actual wireless range for synchronization remains to be clarified.
A few limitations still apply. The Lamp Socket v2 is not rated for direct exposure to the elements, so it’s best used in semi-protected spots like under eaves or within enclosed outdoor fixtures. Also, the sockets depend on being connected to at least one compatible Wyze camera—without it, the sockets won’t offer smart features or bulb control.
For homeowners seeking a more elegant way to power Wyze security cameras and manage outdoor lighting without the clutter of additional hardware, the Lamp Socket v2 is a smart, budget-friendly upgrade that neatly solves two problems with a single device.
