Japanese PC maker Mouse Computer has launched a striking new desktop design under the NextGear EG line that features a bespoke Clear Shift case capable of switching its tempered glass panels from transparent to frosted at the press of a button. This unique functionality lets owners alternate between a clear “showcase” look, ideal for showing off RGB-lit components, and a more muted “stealth” mode that diffuses interior lighting into a subtle glow while obscuring the hardware inside.
The switchable panels work via a control on the top I/O panel, allowing users to toggle between “Transparent Mode” and “Stealth Mode” in about a second. Even in its most opaque state, the frosted glass still permits light to filter through, offering a softer aesthetic without fully revealing internal parts.
NextGear’s Clear Shift chassis is currently available only as part of pre-built desktops sold in Japan through the Mouse-jp.co.jp store and select retailers. Pricing begins at 164,800 yen (roughly $1,070 USD) for a system built around a Ryzen 5 4500 CPU and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 GPU, and rises to 264,800 yen (approximately $1,719 USD) for higher-end configurations featuring a Ryzen 7 7700 and Radeon RX 9060XT graphics. These price points reflect a combination of visually distinctive design and mid-range performance hardware.
At present, the Clear Shift case isn’t offered as a standalone product for DIY PC builders, and there’s no official word on plans for broader retail availability. However, its blend of innovative glass technology and customizable lighting could appeal to enthusiasts who want both flair and flexibility in how their desktop appears in different settings.
