Microsoft Responds to Windows 11 Update Problem, Presents Solution

The highly anticipated security update KB5034765, included in this month’s Patch Tuesday releases, has taken an unexpected turn for Windows 11 users, transforming into a source of frustration and disruption. Across various Windows 11 systems, particularly those running versions 22H2 or 23H2, the update process stalls at a critical juncture, halting at 96 percent and culminating in installation failures with the error code 0x800F0922.

Microsoft has formally acknowledged this issue, marking another setback in the saga surrounding KB5034765 since its rollout on February 13. Beyond the installation woes, users encounter a litany of post-update complications, from vanishing taskbars to File Explorer crashes and performance hiccups.

While Microsoft has remained silent on these secondary issues, they have offered guidance on addressing the installation failure and associated error message 0x800F0922, specifically for Windows 11 versions 23H2 and 22H2. The company is actively developing a solution and plans to release an update in due course.

In the interim, Microsoft advises a temporary workaround: deleting the hidden folder C:$WinREAgent, followed by a system restart. This proactive measure aims to mitigate the installation impediment until a permanent fix is implemented.

However, users should note that accessing the hidden folder requires enabling the display of hidden elements in File Explorer’s settings, accessible via “View > Show > Hidden elements.”
