Intel has broadened the reach of its Intel Application Optimization (IAO) technology, incorporating an additional twelve games into its portfolio. This expansion promises heightened framerates for users equipped with supported processors and activated IAO. Furthermore, this advancement extends compatibility to older processors, albeit with some modifications required.
This update coincides with the launch of the Core i9-14900KS processor, renowned for its remarkable speeds of up to 6.2GHz. However, the inclusion of IAO introduces an additional performance boost, with Intel boasting up to an 11 percent improvement in Metro: Exodus.
Originally launched alongside the 14th-gen Core lineup with support limited to select titles like Metro: Exodus and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, recent updates have diversified its offerings to encompass popular titles such as World of Warcraft, Red Dead Redemption 2, Dirt 5, and F1 2022, among others.
IAO is seamlessly integrated into Intel Dynamic Tuning Technology (Intel DTT) and requires the installation and activation of Intel DTT to function. Users can access the IAO user interface via the Microsoft Store. While Intel has not disclosed detailed operational mechanisms, IAO is known to influence workload thread distribution across cores via Intel’s Thread Director.
Intel validates specific games for particular processors, such as the Core i7-14700HX and Core i9-14900HX for mobile devices, while desktop users benefit from full support on the Intel Core i9-14900K/KF/KS and Core i7-14700K/KF processors.
Nevertheless, users have the option to utilize Advanced Mode, enabling IAO even in unsupported games and potentially extending compatibility to limited 12th- and 13th-gen Core chips. Intel emphasizes that employing Advanced Mode entails certain risks and doesn’t guarantee performance improvements or optimizations.
This expansion suggests that users with high-end processors may experience even greater performance enhancements than initially anticipated. As Intel continues to update IAO with additional games and processor compatibility, users can look forward to further advancements in the future.
