ASUS has publicly acknowledged a growing number of user reports claiming that AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D processors fail when paired with its AMD 800-series motherboards, prompting an internal investigation and quality review. The company issued an official statement saying it is aware of the reports and has “initiated an immediate internal review,” urging users to update to the latest BIOS and reach out to customer support if they encounter issues. ASUS says it is working closely with AMD to validate the reported cases and ensure product stability and quality.
Owners have taken to Reddit and other forums sharing instances where systems exhibit boot failures accompanied by “Q-Code 00,” often interpreted as a CPU or board failure, with some reporting completely non-functional CPUs after normal use. These threads reference both premium ROG and TUF models across the X870 and B850 series.
While only a handful of verified failures have emerged so far, the sheer popularity of the Ryzen 7 9800X3D among gamers and PC builders — frequently selected for high-end builds — has amplified concern across enthusiast communities. Users report varying symptoms, from failure to POST to dead CPUs that require RMA.
ASUS’s move mirrors earlier issues in the AM5 ecosystem: previous reports had focused on ASRock motherboards and X3D CPUs, with BIOS and compatibility updates used to address similar boot or stability problems.
For now, ASUS has not attributed the cause to design or hardware faults. The company’s guidance focuses on ensuring systems run the latest BIOS and offering support to affected customers, while the ongoing review aims to determine any underlying product or compatibility issues.
