Microsoft is making cloud gaming on PC more versatile with the introduction of the “Stream your own game” feature in the Xbox app. This new addition lets Game Pass Ultimate subscribers stream a huge selection of over 250 Xbox console games directly to their PC, bypassing the need to install the games locally.
The feature builds on Microsoft’s existing cloud gaming services, which have been available on Xbox consoles, compatible smart TVs, and via browser streaming. Bringing it to the Xbox PC app means PC gamers now get the convenience of instant access to their owned Xbox games without waiting for downloads or sacrificing storage space. Plus, they can enjoy exclusive Xbox titles not otherwise available on Windows.
Among the many games supported are recent blockbusters such as Baldur’s Gate 3, Star Wars Outlaws, Cyberpunk 2077, and Hogwarts Legacy, with Microsoft continuing to expand the library. When streaming, the games run on Microsoft’s high-performance cloud servers, delivering a console-quality gaming experience regardless of the local PC’s specs. This is a game-changer for users with modest laptops or for those who want to game on the move.
To stream games this way, users must have a Game Pass Ultimate subscription ($19.99/month) and own digital versions of the games. Physical discs won’t work with this streaming service. The feature is currently in preview and requires joining the Xbox Insider program and signing up for the PC Gaming Preview. Microsoft aims to lift this preview restriction soon and plans to increase the library further by adding Xbox Play Anywhere titles.
Available in 28 countries, “Stream your own game” significantly boosts the portability and flexibility of the Xbox ecosystem. For gamers seeking a hassle-free way to access their Xbox game collection without the constraints of hardware or download times, this feature is a welcome development that’s well worth exploring.
