YouTube Premium to Include Peacock Streaming Library Beginning in 2027
YouTube has announced a major expansion of its Premium subscription, revealing that Peacock Premium content will be included for subscribers starting in early 2027. The move marks YouTube’s biggest step yet toward becoming a full-scale streaming platform, combining its existing video service with a catalog of movies, TV shows, and live sports.
The Peacock library will be available directly through the YouTube app, eliminating the need for a separate add-on subscription.
Peacock Content Comes to YouTube Premium
Beginning in 2027, YouTube Premium subscribers will gain access to the ad-supported Peacock Premium catalog.
The integrated offering will include:
- Movies
- TV series
- Live sports coverage
- Peacock original programming
Users will be able to stream this content within the YouTube app, while Peacock will continue operating as a standalone streaming service for existing subscribers.
A Major Shift for YouTube Premium
Until now, YouTube Premium has focused primarily on enhancing the standard YouTube experience.
Current benefits include:
- Ad-free video playback
- Offline downloads
- Background playback on mobile devices
- Higher-quality video streaming
- Access to YouTube Music
The addition of Peacock significantly broadens the subscription, transforming it into a service that more closely resembles competitors such as Netflix or Hulu by offering a substantial library of premium entertainment.
Pricing Questions Remain
YouTube has not announced whether the expanded service will come with a price increase.
Currently:
- YouTube Premium costs $16 per month or $160 annually.
- YouTube Premium Lite costs $9 per month, offering fewer features.
- Peacock Premium is priced at $11 per month or $110 annually.
While YouTube has confirmed that Premium subscribers will automatically receive Peacock access, the company has not said whether:
- Subscription prices will increase.
- A lower-priced Premium plan without Peacock will remain available.
- Alternative bundles combining Peacock without YouTube Music will be introduced.
A New Strategy for Premium Content
The announcement represents a significant change in YouTube’s approach to subscription entertainment.
Previously, YouTube offered services such as HBO Max, Fox One, and Paramount+ through its Primetime Channels marketplace, requiring separate subscriptions for each provider.
By including Peacock directly within YouTube Premium, Google is moving beyond simply distributing third-party streaming services and instead building a more comprehensive subscription platform under a single membership.
Expanding Beyond User-Generated Video
The addition of Peacock gives YouTube Premium access to content categories it previously lacked, including professionally produced television programming, blockbuster films, and live sports.
If successful, the partnership could strengthen YouTube’s position in the increasingly competitive streaming market by combining user-generated content, music streaming, and premium television into a single subscription.
More details about pricing, available content, and rollout timing are expected to be announced closer to the planned 2027 launch.
