Microsoft is planning a major update to the Windows 11 Context Menu to streamline its long-cluttered interface. During a recent WinUI Community Call, the company introduced the Split Context Menu concept, designed to make menus more intelligent and context-sensitive. Currently, the MenuFlyoutItem control doesn’t support split actions, resulting in menus filled with items that don’t always make sense for a given situation.
The new SplitMenuFlyoutItem control addresses this by allowing developers to create primary and secondary actions, enabling context-aware groupings and cleaner submenus. This approach promises to reduce clutter and improve workflow efficiency, letting users access relevant options faster. The API is still in development, with public availability likely to follow after testing within the Windows Insider program.
For users frustrated by the bloated Context Menu, this upcoming change could make right-clicking in Windows 11 a far smoother and more productive experience.
