I’ll be honest, resisting the urge to buy this monitor is tough. I’ve been holding out for Samsung’s double-4K ultrawide in OLED, but this 49-inch MSI model is currently on sale for $870 on Amazon, and it’s seriously hard to pass up. That price is on par with what you’d typically pay for a much smaller 34-inch ultrawide OLED.
The MSI MPG 491CQP, though its name might not roll off the tongue, is virtually identical to other 49-inch OLED ultrawides from brands like Samsung, LG, Asus, and Gigabyte. With a 5120×1440 resolution, it’s like having two 27-inch 1440p monitors fused into one massive, immersive curved display.
Its 144Hz refresh rate may not be the fastest available, but it’s more than enough to challenge even a high-end gaming PC at full resolution. Plus, with a response time of just 0.03ms, it’s more than capable of handling competitive gaming with ease.
This monitor also packs some valuable extras that you won’t always find on pricier models. It includes USB-C video support with up to 90 watts of Power Delivery, making it an excellent choice for gamers using laptops. You also get a DisplayPort 1.4 port, two HDMI 2.1 ports, and a couple of USB-A ports for accessories.
I actually prefer that it skips unnecessary features like mediocre speakers or flashy RGB lighting on the back. It’s compatible with 100x100mm VESA mounts, though you’ll probably need a heavy-duty arm to support its size. MSI also offers a three-year warranty on the OLED panel, covering burn-in, which adds some peace of mind.
This deal is a significant drop from its original $1,100 retail price. Although the additional $40 on-page coupon seems to have expired, the current discount is still substantial. Since Amazon is labeling this as a “limited time deal,” it’s probably wise to act quickly if you’re considering adding this to your setup.
