    Angular 16 introduces reactive enhancements

TypeScript-based framework unveils reactivity improvements, faster builds, and enhanced server-side rendering/hydration

Angular 16, the latest version of Google’s TypeScript-based framework, introduces a new reactivity model aimed at enhancing performance and improving developer experience. Released in May, this update previews several improvements, including changes to server-side rendering and hydration, along with faster build times.

The reactivity model in Angular 16 remains backward-compatible with the previous version while offering more efficient performance. By minimizing the number of computations during change detection, it ensures faster rendering and reduces unnecessary overhead. One of the key benefits is fine-grained reactivity, which isolates updates to only the components affected by changes, significantly streamlining the data flow within applications.

Server-side rendering also sees improvements, with a developer preview of full-app non-destructive hydration. This feature allows Angular to reuse existing DOM nodes rather than re-render the application from scratch, which results in smoother page transitions without content flickering. This new approach is future-proof and supports finer code splitting, setting the stage for more optimized loading strategies in future updates.

The latest release also includes updates to Angular Universal’s ng add schematics, facilitating easier implementation of server-side rendering in standalone APIs. Enhancements to content security policies, particularly for inline styles, also add another layer of security to Angular applications.

Looking forward, Angular is set to include partial hydration, which would allow developers to delay the loading of non-essential JavaScript and hydrate those components later. This further optimizes server-side rendered applications by reducing initial load times and enhancing performance, particularly for complex apps.
