Windows Copilot Now Opens with Alt+Space Shortcut in Compact Mode
Microsoft is testing a new compact view for its Copilot feature in Windows, which can now be accessed with the Alt+Space shortcut. This is a more accessible way to use Copilot without needing to open it in full-screen mode. However, the change is relatively minor in terms of functionality.
While the new Copilot app is being described as “native,” it’s still relying on Microsoft’s Copilot website rather than functioning entirely offline on your PC. This means users are still dependent on internet access to use the feature, even though the app is being marketed as more integrated into the Windows experience.
The compact view, once launched with the Alt+Space shortcut, can be expanded into a larger window with the press of a button. It’s important to note that if other apps use the Alt+Space shortcut, Windows will prioritize the app that was active first when the shortcut was triggered.
This update is now being rolled out to Windows Insiders, and while it’s not a major overhaul, it could pave the way for further improvements to Copilot in the future.
