Gemini 2.0 Introduces Deep Research: A Tool That Mimics Human Research for Reports

In an effort to elevate its AI capabilities, Google has launched version 2.0 of its Gemini model, introducing a feature called Deep Research. This new tool aims to replicate the way humans research a topic and build a detailed report, which could revolutionize how students and professionals approach information gathering.

Deep Research starts by creating a research plan based on the initial prompt, asking the user to approve it before moving forward. Rather than generating a report immediately, the AI first outlines its research strategy. After approval, it scours multiple sources—over 48 websites—crafting a cohesive report that evolves as new information is uncovered. This dynamic approach means that the report is constantly updated, mimicking the way a human researcher might refine their findings. Once the process is complete, users can export the final report into Google Docs, with proper footnotes and links to the original sources for deeper exploration.

Although designed to help students get up to speed on a subject, the tool raises questions about academic integrity, as it could easily be used for assignments. Deep Research will be available to subscribers of Gemini Advanced, which costs $19.99 per month and includes access to Google’s next-gen AI models and a Google One membership.
