Google Workspace users can now send end-to-end encrypted emails from Gmail to non-Gmail recipients, according to an announcement from Google. This expands the privacy protections previously reserved for Gmail-to-Gmail messages, allowing for secure communication with users on Outlook, other email services, or private servers.
With end-to-end encryption, the email content is fully encrypted before leaving the Gmail client, ensuring that only the recipient can decrypt and read the message. Recipients will be prompted to authenticate to view the email, while the subject line and recipient information remain unencrypted.
The feature started rolling out on September 30th and may take up to 15 days for all eligible users to gain access. Google says this expansion enhances email security and privacy, helping users communicate safely across different email platforms.
