    According to a newly published report by technical recruitment platform CoderPad, most developers are optimistic that AI will reduce their workload and are willing to use it, but some do not trust AI.

    The State of Tech Hiring 2024 report, released on January 9, found that 70% of developers believe AI will help reduce their workload, and 60% want to use AI more as part of their business. Developers surveyed reported confidence in AI-powered tools, citing benefits such as code assistance, learning and tutorials, auto-completion, code generation, documentation, and API support.

    “I use AI to help write code that would be just a waste of time to write manually, like making fetch functions in Python with different URLs or short script tools,” said an anonymous participant.

    But the CoderPad survey also found that 29% of developers surveyed did not trust AI, and 28% reported that their employers were against the use of AI. A quarter of developers think AI is unreliable or inefficient. A third of developers think using AI during an interview or technical test is cheating.

    The report is based on a CoderPad survey of more than 13,000 developers from 149 countries. Nearly 5,500 people who hire technical professionals as part of their business also participated in the survey. Other findings from the State of Technology Hiring 2024 report:

    36% of developers said they were not interested in taking on management responsibilities.

    75% of developers said they were satisfied with the current management.

    Developers reported increased concerns about job security;

    21% said they felt less secure in their jobs compared to a year ago (compared to 17% last year).

    37% said they felt no significant change in the last 12 months, and 32% said they felt safer.

    Nearly half of developers were considering leaving their jobs in the next 12 months.
