Mozilla has rolled out Firefox 129.0, featuring important security fixes and enhancements for Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android. This update introduces 14 security patches, with 11 classified as high risk. None of these vulnerabilities have been reported as exploited in the wild.

The update can be accessed by checking for updates under Help > About Firefox or by downloading it manually. Firefox 129 brings several notable changes, including the default use of HTTPS for unencrypted URLs, improving website security by prioritizing encrypted connections. DNS over HTTPS (DoH) is now integrated for resolving HTTPS DNS entries on Windows 11, Linux, and Android 10 or later without needing manual activation.

Reader View has received a significant upgrade, now allowing users to customize font types, weights, content width, line spacing, and color schemes. A new tab preview function will also be introduced, providing a minimized screenshot of background tabs for easier navigation.

The ESR versions of Firefox also receive updates, with ESR 115 addressing nine security issues and ESR 128 fixing 12, mirroring the desktop version’s improvements. Support for Windows 7 and 8 will end with the upcoming deprecation of ESR 115 in September 2024. Firefox for Android 129 includes the same security fixes and improvements as the desktop version, with additional language options for offline translation.
