Perplexity, the AI startup widely recognized for its free AI-powered answer engine, is stepping further into the productivity space with a new product: Perplexity Email Assistant. The company positions this tool as a powerful way to reduce inbox stress by letting AI take over many of the time-consuming tasks tied to email. Built directly into Gmail and Outlook, Email Assistant offers seamless integration into platforms already central to professional communication.
The tool brings multiple layers of functionality. It can automatically draft replies and original emails while reflecting the user’s natural writing style, making responses feel authentic rather than robotic. It also organizes messages into clearer categories, suggests ideal meeting times, and can even take part in ongoing threads to minimize repetitive back-and-forth exchanges. Its query-based interaction also means users can “ask” their inbox for quick insights—whether to highlight critical messages tied to an upcoming meeting or to generate summaries of emails centered around topics like quarterly budgets or departmental updates.
Perplexity has also placed a strong emphasis on compliance and trustworthiness. Email Assistant is built with SOC 2 and GDPR compliance as default features, ensuring enterprise-level data protection. The company further stresses that no user data will be used to train its models, a policy designed to set it apart in an era of heightened sensitivity around digital privacy.
At launch, the service is restricted to Perplexity’s Max subscription tier, priced at $200 per month. While this premium cost puts the tool squarely in the domain of businesses and professionals with demanding communication needs, its advanced features may justify the investment. For those already relying on AI to boost productivity, Email Assistant could become an indispensable extension of their workflow.
