Nearly 500,000 Anker power banks are being recalled following a U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) investigation that uncovered more than thirty incidents of fires and explosions linked to the devices. The recall covers models A1647, A1652, A1257, A1681, and A1689, with the model numbers visible both online and on the devices themselves. Around 481,000 units sold previously are affected.
Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the affected power banks and visit Anker’s recall page to confirm their serial numbers and register for the recall. Some of these models were also part of Anker’s voluntary recalls in June and September 2024, though other models like the A1263 are not included in the current action. The CPSC emphasized that recalled lithium-ion batteries cannot be disposed of in normal trash due to their fire hazard.
The recalled power banks were sold through multiple retailers, including Amazon, AliExpress, eBay, Walmart, and TikTok, at prices ranging from $30 to $50. Amazon has already removed the affected products from its listings. This recall comes as part of a record-breaking year for the CPSC, which has issued 376 recalls and safety alerts in 2025 alone, while the agency faces scrutiny from the Trump administration over its non-partisan operations.
