Java Drops to Fourth Place in Tiobe Programming Language Popularity Index
In a significant development, C++ has surpassed Java in the latest edition of the Tiobe Programming Community Index, marking the first time since its inception in 2001 that C++ has outranked Java. In contrast to the Tiobe index, Java maintains its lead over C++ in the Pypl Popularity of Programming Language Index. This alternative index ranks languages based on Google search trends for language tutorials, indicating Java’s strong educational and learning appeal. As of December 2022, Python tops the Pypl index with a commanding 28.34% share, followed by Java at 16.93%. JavaScript, C#, C/C++, PHP, R, TypeScript, Swift, and Objective-C complete the top 10, illustrating the dynamic landscape of programming languages and their evolving roles in industry and academia.
