After testing a lighter subscription tier in India for nearly four months, OpenAI has officially launched ChatGPT Go in the US. Priced at $8 per month, this new plan is designed to sit between the free version of ChatGPT and the full ChatGPT Plus subscription. ChatGPT Go includes everything available in the free tier, along with several meaningful upgrades, most notably unlimited chats with GPT-5.2 Instant. Users can now find the Go option when upgrading their plan directly from their ChatGPT account.
Compared to the free version, ChatGPT Go unlocks higher usage limits across multiple areas. Subscribers get the ability to generate more images, upload more files, and maintain longer conversations thanks to expanded memory and a larger context window. The plan also grants access to additional tools, including Projects, Tasks, and Custom GPTs, as well as extended access to advanced data analysis features. These additions make ChatGPT Go a more flexible option for users who rely on the chatbot regularly but don’t need every premium feature.
As is typical for OpenAI, the company does not disclose exact usage limits. Instead, it notes that Go users receive higher caps for core chat and tools than free users. These limits may vary depending on system demand and are protected by abuse safeguards, meaning availability can fluctuate during peak usage periods.
With the introduction of ChatGPT Go, OpenAI now offers three paid tiers, all billed monthly. Each plan is tailored to a different level of usage and complexity:
| Tier | Monthly Price | Model Access |
|---|---|---|
| ChatGPT Free | $0 | GPT-5.2 |
| ChatGPT Go | $8 | GPT-5.2 Instant |
| ChatGPT Plus | $20 | GPT-5.2 Thinking, legacy models, Codex |
| ChatGPT Pro | $200 | GPT-5.2 Pro |
In practical terms, the free version of ChatGPT is best suited for everyday questions and light tasks. Upgrading to ChatGPT Go allows users to work for longer periods, create more content, and avoid frequent usage limits—though it does not include access to Sora. ChatGPT Plus, on the other hand, is ideal for daily users who handle more complex requests and want access to advanced tools, legacy models, and Sora.
The $200-per-month ChatGPT Pro plan targets what OpenAI describes as “AI power users”—those pushing the limits of advanced intelligence. This tier includes GPT-5.2 Pro, maximum memory and context length, and early access to experimental features before they reach other users.
