Deno Launches Hosting Platform for Server-Side JavaScript Applications

The team behind the Deno JavaScript/TypeScript runtime has introduced Deno Deploy, a globally distributed virtual machine service designed to run JavaScript, TypeScript, and WebAssembly at the edge. This innovative platform aims to become the premier hosting solution for modern server-side JavaScript applications, focusing on speed, scalability, and ease of use for developers.

Deno Deploy entered its first beta phase on June 23, with additional beta updates planned before its general availability in the fourth quarter of 2021. The service operates on a multi-tenant JavaScript engine spread across 25 data centers worldwide, including locations such as Taiwan, Montreal, Los Angeles, and London. By integrating Google’s V8 JavaScript engine with global cloud infrastructure, Deno Deploy empowers developers to build locally while deploying applications seamlessly across the globe.

The platform is built on the same foundation as the open-source Deno CLI and is available for free during its Beta 1 phase. Developers can easily sign up using GitHub to experiment with the service. Over the past eight months, Deno’s team has been refining this hosted service to complement existing workflows and provide a smooth transition for those familiar with the Deno CLI.

Unlike platforms like AWS Lambda or Cloudflare Workers, Deno Deploy is built on a completely new system with a distinctive architecture. While the initial user interface may be basic, the team encourages developers to explore the platform and experience the benefits of its innovative runtime. With Deno Deploy, developers gain a powerful tool for creating and deploying server-side applications with the efficiency and flexibility demanded by modern web development
