Eve Finally Brings Support to Android Smart Home Users

Eve Systems Debuts Android App, but Functionality Remains Limited

Eve Systems has finally launched its long-awaited Android app, signaling a shift in its historically Apple-exclusive approach to smart home technology. The app, which has been in the works for over two years, introduces Android users to Eve’s more advanced device controls, previously limited to iOS. However, the initial rollout comes with a major caveat: the app currently supports only one product, the Eve Thermo smart radiator valve, which is available only in European markets.

The decision to release the app with such limited functionality appears to be driven by timing. Eve CEO Jerome Gackel stated that the company prioritized launching the app ahead of the colder months to enhance the appeal of the Eve Thermo. While this narrow focus may disappoint users hoping for broader device support, Gackel confirmed that expanded compatibility is planned for future updates. Additionally, the app’s current reliance on Google Home APIs means it does not yet integrate with Alexa or Samsung SmartThings.

For Android users, Eve’s move is a step forward, though modest. Prior to this release, the only way to control Eve devices on Android was through the Google Home app via Matter. While Matter enables basic interoperability across devices, it lacks the advanced customization and automation features offered by Eve’s app. The new app allows users to create on-device automations, bypassing cloud dependencies and offering a more powerful smart home experience.

Eve’s product lineup, which includes the Eve Door and Window sensor, Eve Energy smart plug, and Eve Water Guard leak detector, has long been recognized for its quality. The introduction of Matter-supported devices in 2023, like the updated Eve Motion, signaled a broader push toward inclusivity. The new Android app, albeit limited in scope for now, represents another step toward bridging the gap between Apple and Android ecosystems in the smart home space.
