Get Ready for Smaller Taskbar Icons in Windows 11

Microsoft continues to evolve the Windows 11 taskbar, but there is still potential for further improvements. With the recent rollout of the Windows 11 2024 Update, which brought a host of new features and enhancements, the company is already setting its sights on the next update and its forthcoming capabilities.

As highlighted by Twitter user @phantomofearth and reported by Windows Latest, a new version of Windows 11, currently accessible only to Insiders on the Beta Channel, will soon allow users to change the size of taskbar items.

The latest Beta version includes a new toggle in the Taskbar settings within Windows Settings, allowing users to show smaller taskbar buttons. This feature provides options for Always, Never, and When the taskbar is full, although it’s worth mentioning that the setting isn’t fully functional yet.

This option was previously available in Windows 10 but was removed when Windows 11 was launched for reasons that remain unclear. Its return is a great way to free up additional screen space, making it a much-anticipated change.

For users not participating in the Windows Insider program, this feature is anticipated to roll out to the general public sometime in November or December.
