Jakarta EE 10 marks a significant milestone for the Eclipse Foundation’s enterprise Java platform, officially launched with a strong focus on cloud-native application development. This version arrives with improvements aimed at making it easier for developers to build, deploy, and manage Java applications in modern cloud environments. With a growing demand for cloud-based solutions, Jakarta EE 10’s enhancements reflect an industry-wide shift towards more scalable and efficient cloud-native architectures.

Among the major components of this release are the Jakarta EE 10 Platform, the updated Web Profile, and the introduction of the new Core Profile. The Core Profile is designed to simplify the framework further by offering a smaller, lightweight profile tailored to microservices and cloud-native deployments. This makes it ideal for developers working on applications that need to be highly efficient and easy to deploy in containerized or serverless environments. Eclipse GlassFish 7, one of the first application servers compatible with Jakarta EE 10, serves as a reference implementation, while other major vendors, including IBM, are expected to follow suit with their own implementations soon.

Jakarta EE 10 emphasizes modernizing enterprise Java, providing developers with tools to build lightweight applications that leverage cloud services effectively. The updates include enhancements to existing APIs and support for features like modular deployments and better integration with popular frameworks used in cloud-native development. This evolution aims to set a baseline for future innovation, allowing enterprise Java to continue evolving alongside rapid advancements in cloud technology. By focusing on simplicity and lightweight design, Jakarta EE 10 ensures that developers have a solid foundation for building applications that can scale effortlessly.

The Eclipse Foundation envisions Jakarta EE 10 as more than just an update; it’s a step toward fully embracing the requirements of cloud-native ecosystems. By integrating with evolving cloud standards and promoting a developer-friendly experience, this release aligns enterprise Java with the future of cloud infrastructure. As companies increasingly move workloads to the cloud, Jakarta EE 10 is poised to become a key enabler of this transformation. The community-driven approach behind Jakarta EE ensures that new features and innovations will continue to be guided by real-world needs, making the platform relevant and resilient in an ever-changing technology landscape.
