Microsoft’s Copilot Vision Launches in Preview: A Web-Reading AI Assistant

Today marks the gradual preview release of Copilot Vision for Copilot Pro subscribers, a new feature designed to assist users as they browse the web. Available exclusively on Microsoft Edge, Copilot Vision isn’t a multimodal AI capable of interpreting your environment, but a tool that reads and analyzes the content of web pages in real time, providing insights based on its observations.

The tool functions similarly to a more interactive version of Windows Recall, offering help with organizing and understanding information. For example, it could be useful when browsing cluttered product pages, as it can scan the content and help users make sense of the options based on preferences or value, without needing to manually sort through everything.

However, Copilot Vision’s initial demonstration in October didn’t impress, as it often simply read aloud what was on the page without adding much insight. The feature is currently only available to a select group of websites and users with the $20 per month Copilot Pro subscription. Microsoft is taking a cautious approach with this tool, especially after the negative reception of Recall. Copilot Vision is opt-in, with user data being deleted once the tool is disabled, but the rollout remains cautious as Microsoft tests the waters.
