Logitech has introduced the Signature Slim Solar+ K980, a $100 wireless solar-powered keyboard that promises long-term convenience by removing the hassle of battery replacements. Built with a low-profile frame, number pad, and minimalist black-and-gray finish, the keyboard takes design inspiration from Logitech’s premium MX lineup. What sets it apart, however, is the discreet strip of solar panels along the top, which delivers a more polished look than Logitech’s earlier solar designs.
The integrated solar cell can draw energy from both sunlight and indoor lighting, storing enough charge to keep the keyboard powered for up to four months between recharges. Logitech also estimates the internal battery can last up to ten years, with the added reassurance that it is user-replaceable if it ever fails to hold a charge. Beyond power efficiency, the K980 includes modern touches such as multi-device connectivity, full compatibility with Logi Options+ software, and a newly introduced “AI Launch” button that provides quick access to AI tools.
Still, Logitech’s latest solar keyboard may leave some users underwhelmed. The company has experimented with solar-powered keyboards for over a decade, and older models like the K750 already offered many of the same advantages—alongside extras such as backlighting. While the Signature Slim Solar+ K980 refines the formula with a sleeker build and better integration into Logitech’s ecosystem, its improvements may feel incremental rather than groundbreaking to long-time fans.
