Once upon a time, desktop PCs didn’t look like the sleek black towers festooned with colorful LED lights that many gamers and creators use today. Instead, they were boxy, beige machines that resembled kitchen appliances more than modern tech gear. This classic, understated look has become a cult favorite in recent years, with various case manufacturers bringing back the retro design language. Now, MainGear has joined the trend with its own fully built desktop computer designed to evoke nostalgia while packing the latest hardware.
The Retro95 is a horizontal desktop system that uses the Silverstone FLP01 case, a faithful throwback to the beige desktops of the late 20th century. It supports full-sized ATX motherboards and contemporary PC parts, offering a rare combination of vintage style and modern performance. The front of the case features two faux floppy disk drives—one of which flips down to reveal useful ports, including two USB-A, one USB-C, and a headphone jack—while the other can house a traditional 5.25-inch optical or disk drive. Such bays are increasingly uncommon on new PCs, making this a unique selling point for retro enthusiasts.
Pricing for the Retro95 starts at $1,599, but that entry-level figure is just the beginning. MainGear offers a spectrum of configurations, all the way up to jaw-dropping specs including the powerful Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU, Nvidia RTX 5080 GPU, 96GB of RAM, and a massive 8TB SSD setup. While these top-tier parts promise blistering performance, they naturally come at a higher cost, and buyers should choose wisely based on their needs and budget. Unfortunately, while the Retro95 supports optical drives, the package doesn’t appear to include one, so users who want a CD or DVD drive will need to add one on their own.
MainGear has made it clear this is a limited-edition release, available starting today, with no official word on total production numbers or how many units will be offered at each price point. The company cautions that when these units sell out, there won’t be more. For anyone looking to combine modern PC power with the charm of classic computing aesthetics, the Retro95 delivers a rare blend of nostalgia and cutting-edge performance in one compact package.
