New Proton Authenticator app brings free 2FA to desktops

Proton, the Swiss company famous for its privacy-focused tools, just launched Proton Authenticator—an open-source two-factor authentication (2FA) app designed to keep your accounts extra safe. It works just like Microsoft Authenticator, Google Authenticator, or Authy, but Proton’s app stands out by being open-source, super secure, and completely free of ads or tracking.

What makes Proton Authenticator even more unique is that it’s available on all your favorite platforms: Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS. Unlike Microsoft or Google, Proton offers a desktop app so you can use 2FA right from your computer. Plus, if you sign up for a free Proton Account, your 2FA codes stay synced across all your devices.

This is great news for anyone who cares about privacy and wants to ditch the big tech companies. Proton also offers other privacy tools like Proton Mail, Proton VPN, Proton Drive, and Proton Pass to help keep your data safe.
