OpenAI is reportedly developing a unified desktop “superapp” that brings its major AI tools together in one place.
According to internal details shared by executive Fidji Simo, the app will combine core services like ChatGPT, the Codex coding tool, and the Atlas AI browser into a single interface.
One app for everything AI
The goal is to eliminate fragmentation between multiple applications and create a central hub for AI-powered work, including:
- Conversational AI (ChatGPT)
- Coding assistance (Codex)
- AI-powered browsing (Atlas)
Other tools—such as OpenAI’s video generator Sora—may also be integrated, though that hasn’t been confirmed.
Fixing fragmentation
OpenAI believes its current ecosystem is too spread out across different apps, limiting both usability and product quality. The superapp aims to streamline workflows and provide a more cohesive user experience.
A growing trend in AI
The move reflects a broader shift in the industry toward “agentic” and all-in-one AI platforms, where users can handle multiple tasks—writing, coding, browsing, and more—without switching tools.
If successful, OpenAI’s superapp could position itself as a central operating layer for productivity, blending multiple AI capabilities into a single environment.
