Red Hat Introduces Long-Term RHEL Support Option With Lifetime Maintenance for Enterprise Users

Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) quietly released an official image for WSL — but it's not for most of us | Windows Central

Enterprise Linux support has evolved significantly over the past decade, with major vendors extending maintenance periods to meet the long-term needs of businesses running mission-critical workloads. What was once a standard support window of three to five years has gradually expanded, allowing organizations to keep systems secure and stable for much longer without frequent operating system upgrades.

Building on that trend, Red Hat has introduced a new Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) Long-Life Add-On, a service designed to provide ongoing support for specific RHEL releases beyond the company’s traditional lifecycle. Often referred to as “RHEL Forever,” the offering allows enterprises to continue receiving support for a chosen version of the operating system for as long as they maintain the required subscription.

The new option is aimed at organizations that operate legacy applications or highly regulated environments where upgrading to newer operating system versions can be costly, time-consuming, or technically challenging. By extending support indefinitely, businesses can continue running critical workloads while reducing the pressure to migrate on a fixed schedule.

However, the flexibility comes at an additional cost. Rather than replacing Red Hat’s standard support model, the Long-Life Add-On serves as a premium service for customers that require extended maintenance. For enterprises prioritizing stability and long-term operational continuity, the offering provides another option for managing infrastructure without being tied to conventional support deadlines.
