Revolutionizing Video Production: Unleashing the Power of Cloud and Edge Resources for Optimal Performance

The video industry has undergone a remarkable transformation, with cloud-based applications revolutionizing the way content is processed and delivered. Gone are the days of dedicated hardware rooms and complex engineering setups. However, for companies like EZDRM, specializing in digital rights management (DRM) for video services, finding the optimal solution required an early embrace of centrally managed, shared software security resources.

Digital rights management, particularly for video streams, posed unique challenges that demanded a delicate balance between standardization and secure, proprietary technology. EZDRM pioneered the concept of DRM as a service (DRMaaS), a software-as-a-service approach that separated the standardized video processing workflow from the secure control plane of license creation and delivery.

DRMaaS leverages the scalability, accessibility, and centralized management of the cloud. It introduced a seamless way to update security measures, implement improvements, and address evolving challenges posed by piracy and content sharing. The cloud-centric architecture allowed for efficient management of encryption keys, consumption rules, and business logic while ensuring security and standardization.

While EZDRM firmly believes in the effectiveness of its cloud-centric DRMaaS architecture, the team recognizes that real-world constraints sometimes demand creative solutions. In instances of less-than-stable connectivity or latency-critical tasks, edge compute resources prove invaluable. However, EZDRM’s preferred approach involves a cloud-hybrid architecture, allowing the best utilization of technology foundations and providing options that surpass DRM-in-a-box compromises.

One compelling use case emerged with a telecommunications client operating a video service on an island with limited global internet connectivity. While the client could reliably deliver high-bandwidth video streams locally, intermittent failures accessing cloud resources posed challenges. The EZDRM team devised the DRMaaS Cloud On-Prem, a configuration that optimizes local and global connectivity.

The DRMaaS Cloud On-Prem comprises a standard customer service configuration in the EZDRM cloud infrastructure, a local telecommunications server managing content packaging and client license delivery, and an innovative domain name system configuration. This setup allows client devices on the island to leverage local high bandwidth and low latency while ensuring a fallback service supported by the EZDRM cloud instance.

This deployment has evolved into a versatile cloud-hybrid option, ideal for video service networks with limited or intermittent global connectivity. The Cloud On-Prem solution offers a reliable video service experience, taking full advantage of local resources while seamlessly integrating with global cloud infrastructure when available.

Olga Kornienko, COO, and Co-founder of EZDRM, expresses pride in the company’s ability to solve real-world content security challenges. The Cloud On-Prem solution exemplifies EZDRM’s commitment to innovation, providing clients with flexible, effective, and resilient video service solutions.
