This is the second in a two-part series on 2023. Mary Ann and Alex called on two of our colleagues to help us chat about some of the biggest events of the year. Here’s what we encountered!

The decline and fall of SVB: A lot has happened since the chaos at Silicon Valley Bank unfolded earlier this year, but the sudden and shocking collapse of what was essentially the family tech bank has made waves across the global tech landscape. Startups were impacted, public companies were impacted, and some startups actually got a boost!
Chaos at OpenAI: Another period of high drama in tech this year fueled by the weekend was Sam Altman being relieved of his role at OpenAI, but soon the tide turned completely, with Altman returning to the partnership and many who wanted him out went themselves. This is still in development, so we brought on Devin Coldewey to help us figure out what happens next.
SBF’s case: It took a long time. It was very boring. It was very interesting at times. But ultimately, former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried was found extremely guilty of various financial crimes related to his now-failed crypto exchange. We invited Jacquie Melinek back to the show to revisit the legend with us.
If you need more, here’s part one of our year-end recap! And remember, even more great things are coming your way at Equity, so stick with your favorite podcast app.
