Upcoming Bluetooth 6.0 Update Introduces a Handy New Feature

Bluetooth has become ubiquitous in modern technology, from phones and laptops to gaming peripherals and smart home devices. The last major update, Bluetooth 5.0, was introduced in 2016, and tech enthusiasts have been eagerly anticipating the next version. Now, Bluetooth 6.0 is on its way, promising several exciting new features.

One of the most notable additions in Bluetooth 6.0 is “Channel Sounding,” which offers precise location tracking for devices and objects. This feature enables you to locate items with centimeter-level accuracy, a significant upgrade from previous versions. Channel Sounding works effectively over both short and long distances, potentially improving the performance of tracking devices like Apple’s AirTag and apps such as Google’s Find My Device. It could also help with finding everyday items like remote controls, which often seem to disappear.

Bluetooth 6.0 is also set to enhance audio streaming with its “Isochronous Adaptation Layer” (ISOAL). This technology aims to improve audio quality in real time, reduce latency, and ensure smoother audio transmission. This is an upgrade on the current LE Audio improvements, which focus on synchronizing audio and video.

While there’s no official release date for Bluetooth 6.0 yet, it’s expected to start appearing in devices around 2025. However, manufacturers already have access to the technology, so we might see it in new products sooner.
