Windows 11 24H2 Update Breaks USB Scanning Devices: What You Need to Know

After the rollout of Windows 11 24H2, users with USB scanning devices have been reporting issues with their devices not being recognized or failing to work at all. This problem has been noted across various platforms, including the Microsoft community forum and Reddit, and has caused significant disruption for many who rely on these devices for daily tasks.

    Which Devices Are Affected?
The issue appears to be affecting USB scanners that use the eSCL protocol, a widely supported protocol utilized by companies like HP, Brother, and Fujitsu. It also impacts multi-function devices such as printers, fax machines, and modems that include scanning functionality. The common thread is that these devices are no longer recognized by Windows 11 24H2 after the update is installed, causing frustration among users.

Microsoft has officially confirmed the issue and responded by pausing the update for systems that have USB scanning devices connected. The company is reportedly collaborating with the affected manufacturers to resolve the issue, but driver updates so far have been unable to make the scanning devices functional again.

What Can You Do if You’re Affected?
If you use USB scanning devices for work or other important tasks, the best course of action is to avoid installing Windows 11 24H2 for the time being. Since Microsoft has already blocked the update on affected systems, you likely won’t be able to install it unless you manually override the block, which is not recommended.

For those who have already updated and are now dealing with the issue, the most viable option is to rollback to a previous version of Windows 11. While this might not fix all related issues, it can provide a temporary solution until a proper fix is released.

For now, affected users will have to wait for Microsoft and device manufacturers to work together on a fix, as no immediate solutions are available to restore functionality to the impacted devices.
