File Search Companion to Streamline File Discovery in Windows 11

Microsoft has introduced a new feature called Microsoft 365 Companions, which is set to make navigating Windows 11 even easier. Unveiled at Ignite 2024, Microsoft 365 Companions integrates directly with the taskbar and Start menu, allowing users to access essential information and tools with a simple click.

Currently being tested is the File Search Companion, a web-based feature that will allow Windows 11 users to search for files across Microsoft 365 apps and OneDrive directly from their taskbar. As highlighted by Windows Latest, the new search tool will allow users to search for both local and cloud-synced files, making it convenient to locate the exact document you need.

When activated, the File Search Companion will appear as a fly-out pop-up pinned to the taskbar, offering an intuitive interface to search for recent, shared, or team-relevant files. A key feature is the ability to filter search results by file type (e.g., Word documents or Excel spreadsheets), which will help narrow down results and increase efficiency.

While Microsoft hasn’t yet provided a release date, this new tool is expected to be rolled out in the coming months. If this feature is any indication of the potential of Microsoft 365 Companions, Windows 11 users can look forward to a smoother, more efficient workflow with future updates.
