Windows 11 testing Copilot-powered file search

Microsoft has begun deploying a new version of its Copilot app (version 1.25082.132.0) to Windows Insider participants, delivering two notable AI-powered upgrades. The standout feature is semantic file search, which transforms how users locate content by enabling natural language queries like “find my CV” or “show photos of mountains I took last summer.” This approach moves beyond rigid file-name matching, making search far more intuitive. Users can also decide what files and folders are accessible through Copilot’s settings. However, this functionality will be limited to Copilot+ PCs featuring high-performance NPUs, highlighting Microsoft’s intent to optimize AI features for next-generation hardware.

The update also introduces a refreshed Copilot home interface designed to unify key resources by surfacing recently used apps, files, and conversations directly within the app. As Microsoft rolls out the update gradually through the Microsoft Store, the company is signaling a continued investment in making AI a seamless part of the Windows 11 ecosystem, further differentiating its platform in an increasingly AI-centric computing landscape.
