Baldur’s Gate III Introduces Native Modding Capabilities for PC

Baldur’s Gate III captured the gaming world’s attention last year and continues to be a dominant force in the PC gaming landscape. Even during work hours, the game attracts more than 70,000 concurrent players on Steam, highlighting its ongoing success and dedicated community.

The game’s latest patch is generating even more buzz, as it brings native mod support directly into the game’s interface. While modding isn’t new to Baldur’s Gate III — players have been experimenting with mods since the game’s early access phase — the ability to install and manage mods without relying on third-party tools is a major step forward.

Larian Studios, recognizing the value of the modding community, has ensured that widely-used tools like Script Extender are compatible with the new system. Many of the most popular mods will automatically be integrated into the game’s Mod Manager upon updating, making the process of discovering and installing mods smoother than ever.

With the new native modding system, players can browse, install, and update mods entirely within the game itself, similar to the Steam Workshop experience. However, Larian has designed a system that operates independently of Steam, giving players more flexibility in how they manage their game’s custom content.

The official Baldur’s Gate III Toolkit also empowers modders to go beyond traditional game changes, allowing for the creation of everything from new weapons and armor to customized spells and dice skins. These tools offer limitless opportunities for both casual players and seasoned modders to enhance their gameplay experience.

In addition to native mod support, the patch brings new content such as alternate endings, enhanced boss fights, and refined animations. Despite the game being considered feature-complete, Larian remains committed to rolling out exciting updates, including a highly anticipated photo mode and crossplay functionality across platforms.
