Chrome 132 Update Fixes Security Vulnerabilities and Adds New Features

Google has launched the Chrome 132.0.6834.83/84 for Windows and macOS and 132.0.6834.83 for Linux, patching 16 security vulnerabilities, none of which have been exploited for attacks so far. The update also introduces new features, including enhanced search with Google Lens. This move follows Chrome’s typical trend of releasing updates that strengthen browser security, with other Chromium-based browsers set to release similar updates soon.

The update addresses 13 vulnerabilities discovered by external security researchers, five of which are classified as high-risk, earning a combined $37,000 in reward payouts. Google has not revealed information on vulnerabilities identified internally. The last Chrome update, version 131, fixed four vulnerabilities.

As with previous updates, Chrome will automatically update for most users, but manual checks can be done by going to Help > About Google Chrome or Settings > About Google Chrome. A corresponding update, Chrome 131.0.6778.200, has also been released for Android, resolving the same vulnerabilities.

In addition to security fixes, Chrome 132 introduces options like pinning commonly used functions to the toolbar, a new feature allowing Google Password Manager sharing on Android and iOS, and enhanced capabilities for Google Lens on the desktop.

With the release of Chrome 132, other major Chromium browsers like Edge, Brave, Vivaldi, and Opera will need to update to close the security gaps left by older versions.
