Decoding the Thinkware F70 Pro Dash Cam: Is the ‘Pro’ Moniker Justifiable?

Priced at $100, the Thinkware F70 Pro attempts to carve a niche in the competitive dash cam market, but its performance reveals a set of both commendable and questionable aspects. In a landscape where 1440p resolution has become standard, the F70 Pro’s adherence to 1080p becomes a noteworthy aspect, and its video quality fails to distinguish itself as superior within this resolution.

The physical design of the F70 Pro is certainly eye-catching, showcasing a slender and handsome build. However, the absence of a display is a notable drawback, necessitating reliance on a phone app for configuration and viewing. Unfortunately, the app’s lack of support for popular devices like the Google Pixel and the additional cost for essential features, such as GPS, raise concerns about the device’s “Pro” designation.

Spec-wise, the F70 Pro is a front-only dash cam offering 1080p resolution at 30fps with a 140-degree field of view. Its compact dimensions and light weight contribute to easy removal, but limitations in mount adjustability may pose challenges during installation. The device supports up to a 128GB SD card, providing a respectable but not groundbreaking storage capacity.

Despite pioneering the display-less, phone-centric design, Thinkware’s decision to exclude support for Google Pixel phones raises questions about the company’s commitment to user accessibility. The video quality, while functional, exhibits a level of fuzziness, particularly in low-light conditions. Although the captures serve their purpose as evidence, the overall quality falls short of expectations.

In summary, the Thinkware F70 Pro offers a modest experience, combining an appealing physical design with limitations in functionality. The device’s performance, coupled with compatibility issues and additional costs, prompts consideration of alternative dash cams in the same price range.
