Google wants to turn brain dumps into an AI productivity tool

Google Expands Gemini Into Docs, Gmail and Keep With “Brain Dump” AI Features

Google is continuing to deepen the integration of Google Gemini across its productivity ecosystem with new conversational tools designed to turn disorganized thoughts into polished documents, reminders and emails.

The latest additions include Docs Live, upgraded Google Keep functionality and expanded Gmail AI features, all centered around Google’s vision of reducing the amount of manual planning and writing users perform themselves.

Docs Live Turns Stream-of-Consciousness Into Structured Documents

The new Docs Live feature allows users to verbally describe ideas, tasks or scattered thoughts while Gemini automatically organizes the information into coherent documents.

Rather than requiring carefully written prompts, users can now provide loose conversational instructions and let Gemini assemble information pulled from connected Google services such as Gmail and Drive.

During demonstrations, Google showed Gemini creating an entire school presentation outline after a user casually explained the situation, referenced an existing resume stored in Drive and mentioned related emails containing event logistics.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai described the feature as a way to transform “brain dumps” into usable documents without demanding structured prompts from users.

Google Keep Gains AI-Generated Task Planning

Google Keep is also receiving expanded AI functionality beyond simple reminders and notes.

Instead of manually creating task lists, users can now ask Gemini to automatically generate complete checklists and workflows. Google demonstrated scenarios where Keep could build step-by-step project plans based on simple requests such as painting a room or organizing activities.

The system is designed to infer missing steps automatically rather than relying entirely on explicit user instructions.

Gmail AI Expands Into Search and Email Drafting

Gmail is additionally receiving new AI Inbox capabilities focused on email search, automated organization and message drafting.

Google says Gemini will help users quickly retrieve documents, identify important travel information such as flight gates and automatically draft emails using contextual information from connected Google services.

The company is also testing broader “Gmail Live” functionality that may eventually allow Gemini to handle more conversational email-related tasks directly through voice interactions and contextual prompts.

AI Features Remain Locked Behind Paid Plans

Many of the new capabilities will only be available to subscribers of Google AI Pro and AI Ultra plans when they launch later this year.

Google has increasingly tied advanced Gemini features to premium subscription tiers as the company shifts toward more compute-intensive AI services and token-based processing models.

The rollout reflects a broader industry trend where productivity software is becoming increasingly conversational, collaborative and AI-driven, with traditional document creation gradually evolving away from highly structured workflows toward faster, more informal interaction styles.
