Lenovo IdeaCentre Mini x: Snapdragon-Powered Mini Desktop for Office Efficiency

After Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Dev Kit was canceled, many hoped that the Snapdragon X Elite CPU would find a place in desktop PCs, specifically in compact devices. Lenovo has answered that call with the IdeaCentre Mini x, a small-form-factor desktop that brings the Snapdragon X chip to the desktop space. Revealed at CES 2025, the IdeaCentre Mini x is priced at $659.99 and is expected to ship in April 2025—a significantly lower price than Qualcomm’s $900 Dev Kit, which was discontinued in October 2024.

The Snapdragon X platform has been primarily seen in laptops, but Qualcomm executives have long hinted at the possibility of Snapdragon-powered desktops. The IdeaCentre Mini x is exactly that: a mini-desktop that offers a compact alternative to traditional desktop PCs. At just 7.68 x 7.52 x 1.68 inches, it’s an ultra-compact machine, ideal for users with limited desk space or those seeking a tidy, streamlined workspace. It’s comparable to a Chromebox but offers the efficiency and power of a Snapdragon X chip for everyday computing.

Inside, the IdeaCentre Mini x is equipped with either a Snapdragon X Plus or Snapdragon X chip, though Lenovo hasn’t specified the exact model or clock speeds. It supports up to 32GB of LPDDR5x RAM and 1TB of PCIe Gen 4 SSD storage, allowing it to handle typical office tasks efficiently. With only a 150W power supply, it’s a highly energy-efficient machine, making it perfect for long hours of office work without straining your power bill.

The device offers robust connectivity options, including HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 1.4a for external monitors, as well as Wi-Fi 7 for seamless connectivity. It also includes three USB-A ports, with two capable of supporting 10Gbps data transfer speeds. While it’s not intended for high-performance gaming, the IdeaCentre Mini x offers a sleek and functional desktop solution for work and productivity, all in a space-saving form factor.
